Wrestlers advance to Regionals

Panther Wrestlers have been winning medals all season, so it is no surprise they did the same at the District meet last week. Eight wrestlers qualified for the Regional meet this Friday and Saturday.

Leading the way for the girls’ squad was District Champion Mia Salas. Salas accomplished this by finishing all her wins in the first period.

“It is exciting. I still cannot believe I am the district champ,” Salas said. “My hardest match was the last match against Cy Lakes. “

Brooke Trevino and Adrianna Romero also qualified with 2nd place finishes. While Karla Matias and Lumiere Kahongo notched 3rd place in their respective weight class to qualify.

The boys’ squad also had a successful meet with Donovan Smith claiming second place. Christian Magana and Carlos Figueroa de la Fe both finished 4th to round out a strong showing for Panther Nation. Magana had an exciting ending to his day having finished 4th he qualified as an alternate for Regionals but he challenged an opponent and won to solidify his chance to compete at Regionals.
