Fashion Design styles their way to six first places
April 17, 2023
Cy-Springs fashion design students’ creativity and talent stood out at the USA State Competition earning them many accolades.
They brought home six 1st places and two 2nd places. The 1st places winners were Kelsie Patterson, Jonathan Barlow, Anderson Lopez, Penelope Mendoza, Aylin Fernandez and Anahi Villalta. Our 2nd place winners were Kassandra Hernandez and Amiyah Spates. For competitions the students sketch out a design then they construct the garment based on the sketch criteria for competition. These scholars advanced after qualifying at the regional competition.
Fashion design teaches you a lot of things that you could use in the future. For example, sewing helps you develop fine motor skills, improves your focus and concentration, and teaches the importance of patience and self-control. If you are wondering what you will do in this class, you will learn how to construct garments, perform alterations on garments and learn how to operate a business in the fashion industry. You have to be in 10th grade or above to join the class. A favorite project that students enjoy during the course is making a duffel bag.
