Senior wins District Wrestling Title

“Pain is temporary” is a quote Senior wrestler Mia Salas lives by.

That mindset has help her accomplish many things in life.

Her latest achievement is being the 152-weight class District Champion.

This week she will compete at Regionals and hopes to qualify for the State Meet.

“I love the excitement of wrestling,” Salas said. “My favorite part is hanging out with my teammates after all the hard work.”

The standout has been wrestling all four years at Cy Springs and credits the fact that each year she has gotten stronger as a factor in her success. She says she still “does not believe” that she won district. Other highlights this year include a first-place finish at the Spartan Hall of Fame Invitational at Seven Lakes January 14th. She also took first place at Klein Collins Tiger Classic and The Ridge Invite during the regular season.

Her favorite wrestling move is the snap, and she gets her inspiration to succeed from all her teammates. She does not plan to wrestle in college but has enjoyed the memories she made here.

“The advice I have for fellow wrestlers is keep pushing through hard times. It was hard when I was beginning but I never gave up,” Salas said.
