As Cypress Springs High School’s class of 2025 prepares to walk across the stage at graduation, one
standout senior, Dillan Salgado leaves behind a legacy in the pool. From mastering the fierce game of
water polo to competing as a swimmer, Salgado has spent the last four years proving what it means to be a dedicated student- athlete.
“What polo is more than just a sport to me,” Salgado said, who was first introduced to it as a freshman. “It’s a game of strategy, strength, and teamwork. It’s taught me resilience and how to push myself further than I thought I could go.”
Juggling water polo practice, swim meets, and academic responsibilities hasn’t always been easy, but his commitment has never wavered.
“Swimming is all about discipline,” he explains. “Getting up early, following routines- it teaches you how to stay focused. When you see your hard work pay off in a race, there is no better feeling.”
Salgado’s journey hasn’t been without challenges.
“ Water polo is demanding, ” he admits “it takes a lot of energy and coordination. But my teammates have always been there for me-encouraging me when I am tired and celebrating with me after a win.”
His favorite memories at Cy Springs include the camaraderie he has shared with teammates.
“Those moments before a big water polo game or swimming relay, when we were all hyping each other up, those are the ones I will carry with me forever,” he said.
Beyond the pool, he has been a role model for younger athletes. “It feels good to share advice and help the freshman grow into stronger players,” he explains. “We always support each other. That is how you build a strong team.”
As graduation approaches, Salgado reflects on his time at Cy Springs.
“ This school has given me so much,” he says, “The coaches, the friends, the opportunities- I’m grateful for every moment.”
Looking ahead, he plans to continue swimming at Bridgeport.
“ I want to keep pushing myself and see how far I can go,” he said with determination.
For now, Salgado’s story serves as a testament to the power of hard work, passion, and perseverance- a story that will inspire future student-athletes at Cypress Springs High School for years to come.
