Nerve racking feelings until the baton touches his hand. The feeling of a kid running wild surges through his body as he runs on the track. As he speeds past the bleachers, the crowd’s chants drown with the wind.
Two time All American in AU, Joshua Harmon has accomplished many things in his high school career. Being scoped out on the football field by his coach, he was forced into Track and soon loved it.
“I got into track my sophomore year. I didn’t want to do it at first but we had a new track coach and he looked at me at the Spring game when we were playing football. He looked at me and said yeah you’re running for me.”
With the help of football, he became physically and mentally stronger, enhancing his skill in track. He made it to regionals in the open 400 during relays breaking the Distance Medley record. Which is a huge accomplishment for him considering he had started his sophomore year and this year he had just gotten back into track after being injured his junior year. For regionals, He placed 6th place in both 400 and 4×400 during finals. “It was a fun trip, I made it to finals and only the top 2 made it to state”.
“My most memorable race was this year when we went to Stanford and we needed to win in the 4×4 to win the whole meet and the coach put me on anchor leg and I told everybody ‘Aye when I get this stick, have my honey bun.’ I did my thing went around the track had first place and got my honey bun”
He and his twin brother, Jacoby Harmon set high standards in track, inspiring people to put in the hard work and accomplish good things. Building onto the Harmon brother legacy after their two other brothers. “I just want people to remember all of us as a whole”. After graduating high school, He will be attending Lamar university, going in as one of the top 400 runners at Lamar. “The plan is just to dominate souls and show who I am”.
Standing in first place on the Olympic podium as the crowd roars, seeing his family smile proudly expressing joy watching their son and brother achieve something he’s worked so hard for. Knowing that the drive and commitment will pay off in the future, this dream could one day turn into Josh’s reality.
