This world contains two types of people; Those who when they see a spider/insect scramble away into a corner of the room in attempts to get
away and start breaking down bawling rivers on tears, and those who are fascinated by these little creatures and attempts to get a closer look of them if
they have a chance whilst probably making an attempt to pick it up. We all think of something different when we think about arachnids/insects that we
know of. Heck some would commit arson just to get rid of one singular spider or insect in their place that they live in such as their home. Although we have these opinions about them, we still have to live amongst them in this world. Now, what are some key things that we can learn about people when it comes to insects/arachnids?
Different visions we all see
“If I see a spider I will grab my torch from my garage to kill it,” James Flikkema who has arachnophobia said.
Most people with arachnophobia have very negative, heartless, and gloomy visions when it comes to arachnids,
but there are people in this world somewhere where even with the fear they would still have one. Many people without arachnophobia, like Keith Lemiux,
say that spiders look very disgusting or creepy, even though they don’t have the irrational fear of spiders. Many negative yes, but there are people who
adore spiders and what they do. Jadis Reed has a very very positive vision when it comes to insects and arachnids.
“I like that spiders and insects keep the environment and our world at balance,” Reed said, “and I love that some
tarantulas keep frogs as pets since they both benefit from each other.”
Not many would say that when it comes to these critters that we humans take for granted way too often. There are other people who don’t really have much of a positive nor negative vision of arachnids/insects.
“I’m pretty neutral with them but I’m terrified of scorpions,” Jaden Tucker said.
Everyone has a different vision on arachnids/insects in this world we live in, but that doesn’t mean we should criticize others for their opinion on them.
Aspects of traits
A spider that is around 5 inches long, leg span of of up to 11 inches, abdomen that looks larger than its cephalothorax, hair running down every
centimeter of its body, large fangs that look like it can bite off your finger, moving swiftly like a fish, and we have people who adore those aspects of
tarantulas (could say the same thing for insects) and why we keep them as our little companion.
“I like that spiders have many eyes and that they have no bones. I also like how big, friendly, and colorful some tarantulas are,”
Bryce Price said.
Reed also mentions that she adores the small claws that all the spiders have. There are plenty of people who like the looks of specific,
arachnids or insects.
“The Orchid mantis has a really cool color pallet and the butterflies are really pretty,” Saray Gainza said.
Like every good thing there is always a negative side to how people view arachnids and insects.
“I hate how many legs spiders have, all their hair, their eyes, and their speed,” Sophia DeLeon
said.
Keith Lemiux thinks that cockroaches are the most disgusting bug to find.
“I don’t like them because they are fast and they also look gross,” he said.
A notable thing is when it comes to aspects of arachnids/insects is that people hate the aspects of
arachnids more than the aspects of insects. Nicolas Duran says that he is genuinely scared of insects that fly.
Preferences among arachnids/insects
About 300 million years ago, in the Carboniferous Period, the first spider was discovered and reported as a primal variant of the current spider. Did you
know that insects are older than spiders? The first one was discovered about 480 million years ago on our planet. Spiders and insects are now being kept as
our little companions in our households after years of humans evolving. Interesting to see how spiders and insects went from being primal creatures of
their food chain where they belong, to more being kept for company in one’s place. Recalling that people have different visions of them determines how
comfortable one is with these creatures, and which one(s) they would preferably be with the closest.
“I would probably have something large that I can tell it is mine and non harmful but still fairly big,” Michael Garcia said.
Pets that are insects/arachnids do have the common syndrome of this arachnid/insect being the most common one people would have as a pet than
the other. One example of arachnid that many people say they would have as a pet is a tarantula. It’s the same thing for insects being that ants are the most common choice for being kept as pets.
A very noticeable thing when asking someone about insects, they usually choose the less harmful ones. Matthew Thompson says that he has a mini ecosystem of pill bugs in his house, and Amir
would have a Giant titan beetle as a pet. Yes beetles can bite you but their procs are lower than a chance of a spider biting you.
Threat or friend
Picture this, a small room with absolutely nothing, all the walls having nothing similar to an asylum, no visual way to get out, everything being the color of white, and you’re stuck with one living organism being an insect/arachnid. What is your poison? This is an interesting one due to one being able to get creative with their response and having the ability to
choose whatever you want.
Many will choose harmless creatures to be trapped with but Flikkema said, “I would rather be trapped in the room FILLED with ants.” These types of people are pretty rare to find unlike the common human, like Gainza, would choose harmless ones like a butterfly, ladybug, or pill bug.
Some people with clever minds will find loopholes to counter this statement like Jaiden Campoverde said, “I wanna be trapped with an ant so that I can stomp it.”
Other types of humans would choose ones that usually make one uncomfortable like a centipede, cockroach, golden back spider, etc.
“I would rather be trapped with a big ass jumping spider, specifically male, cause they are less dangerous and don’t have intent to harm humans. Also so I can pet it since it’s so large of a spider,” Reed said.
Perspective of change?
Interesting how people respond to these mysterious creatures given to us, and how our opinions impact others. We can see that there are more people
with a downside towards spiders than ones on insects. There is one thing we all can learn from this article, whether you have arachnophobia, prefer insects
over arachnids, like a spider more than another one, would burn your house down to get rid of one, start crying in a corner when you spot one, etc, we
need these little guys to be able to survive. Bees are important, spiders are important, everything is important.
